SUMMARY
Harcros Chemicals Inc. is an employee owned company with a long history in specialty chemical manufacturing and distribution. We currently have 2 manufacturing plants and 26 distribution facilities in 19 states. As we continue to grow, we are looking for In-House Counsel to provide legal support to the Risk Management Department and other departments as needed to assist our corporate functions, sales, marketing and the distribution and manufacturing facilities. This position will report to the Corporate Safety Manager and be a key member of the team to assist with legal functions of the Company, including, but not limited to providing legal advice, research, litigation and claims process, review and negotiation of contracts, and reviewing policies and procedures the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the management of legal matters including communicating with and managing outside counsel in responding to litigation, subpoenas, property transactions and resolution of claims, coordinate document production and responses to discovery requests.
- Provide support with responding to government inquiry or enforcement proceedings.
- Analyze and summarize legal documents with a focus on Risk Management
- Review and draft organizational contracts including, but not limited to, service and purchase orders customer and supplier agreements, leases, confidentiality agreements, purchase and sale terms, and any other legal documents or items related to special projects.
- Assist in insurance matters including the annual renewal process, claims management with various carriers and providing case status updates with the carrier’s claims representative.
- Draft and track Legal Hold Notices.
- Track and provide updates of all legal matters to executive leadership and/or the Board of Directors, as required.
- Support corporate policies and procedures related to standards of legal and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task efficiently and be an independent thinker.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally and provide exceptional service internally and externally.
- Highly organized, able to prioritize workflow and manage projects.
- Ability to perform effectively with little or no supervision and within established time limits and on-going deadlines.
- Employee may perform other related duties as required by the organization.
- Occasional travel may be required up to approximately 15%

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate required from an accredited institution. A minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience in either a law firm or corporate setting. Licensed to practice law in the State of Kansas or the ability to qualify for a restricted corporate license in Kansas.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts necessary for engineering design and evaluation such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to use a personal computer with exceptional working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite especially word processing, spread sheet software and Adobe Acrobat Software.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Be able to work with a variety of backgrounds and skill levels.
